We can’t really count on Neil Young remembering that “the Southern man don’t need him around, anyhow,” can we? But we can count on the fact that Lynyrd Skynyrd is both the quintessential Southern rock band of all time, and the most twisted tribute to a gym teacher in the annals of history.

Produced by former Blood Sweat & Tears keyboard player and songwriter Al Kooper, the album featured not only the classic “Sweet Home Alabama,” but also the tongue-in-cheek “Working for MCA.” [MCA, incidentally, is the label upon which this record originally appeared.]

“Want you to sign the contract, want you to sign the date. Gonna give you lots of money workin' for MCA,” said the lyric.

Well, MCA did that. And Skynyrd earned a bunch of dough for MCA. This album hit #12 on the charts, and the rest is history.

Price: $18.49

DID YOU KNOW? Skynyrd was “discovered” at a club called Funnochio’s.
