Their third album overall (and their second in a year’s span), 1974’s Rufusized saw the band in transition. Half the band had exited following the previous album, and the band moved deeper into a funk groove. Despite opening on an auspicious note with “Once You Get Started,” and concluding with a terrific cover of Bobby Womack’s “Stop On By,” the album seemed destined to live in the shadow of its more popular predecessor. Well, more popular with an asterisk: though Rufusized didn’t chart as high as Rags To Rufus on the Pop Album chart, it charted higher on the Black Album chart. Go fig.
Hipocrates Says:
DID YOU KNOW? Norman Seeff, who took the picture on the cover of this album, also took the cover shot for Joni Mitchell’s Hejira.
