Joan’s only live album finally gets its first US release!
Joan Armatrading released a stopgap studio EP in 1979 called “How Cruel”. However, international audiences had heard the song on a stunning live album from the same year, Steppin’ Out. What was truly cruel is that US audiences would have to wait 27 years to hear the in-concert version!
Recorded after the release of To The Limit, Armatrading’s only live record not only showcased tracks from her growing catalog, but was also helmed by the legendary Glyn Johns (who had produced Joan’s three previous releases). Johns brought polish and power to the recording and the captured sound matched the incredible performances from Joan’s 1979 world tour. The band included Wet Willie’s Ricky Hirsch on guitar, Little Feat’s Richie Hayward on drums and in demand session stars Red Young (keyboards), Bill Bodine (bass) and Lon Price (saxophone & flute). Fronted by Joan herself, this is obviously a band that needs to be heard to be believed.
Part of the Performance Classic Series – Hip-O Select is proud to introduce this lost classic to American audiences. Now, US buyers can at long last complete their Joan Armatrading collections with this essential release.
Hip-Ocrates says: Did you know – Bill Bodine was bassist in the Star Search house band for eight seasons!
