With one of the most distinctive covers of the 1970s (and a logo that gives the Rolling Stones’ tongue a run for the money, impression-wise) Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan was the group’s fourth release in under three years. Newcomers Tony Maiden on guitar and Bobby Watson on bass, who had joined for the previous album, had become an integral part of the band’s sound. The Tower Of Power horn section was brought in to guest on this record, and was used to good effect on the get-up-on-the-floor vibe underpinning “Have A Good Time.” The only real miscue on the disc was a lackluster cover of “Jive Talkin’.” But hey, nine out of ten is a pretty fine batting average.

DID YOU KNOW? Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan was the second iteration of the relation between the band and the singer. Originally billed as Rufus, the group ultimately co-billed itself with the singer as Rufus & Chaka Khan.
