After a first run at success with Matthew & Son and New Masters, Cat Stevens dropped out –or was forced out- of the record business, due to a serious bout with tuberculosis. When he returned to recording in 1970, Stevens’ style was virtually unrecognizable to his early fans. But Mona Bone Jakon laid the groundwork for a far more widespread fame. Songs such as “Trouble” and “I Think I See The Light” were featured in the cult classic movie Harold And Maude, and the hipper “underground” radio stations immediately took to the singer-songwriter. Produced by ex-Yardbird Paul Samwell Smith, the album features then-little-known Peter Gabriel on flute. Our imported disc is pressed on 180-gram vinyl in Europe and replicates the fine warm sound only analog can bring.
