>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>S*U*G*G*E*S*T*I*O*N<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Add a GENERAL DISCUSSION FORUM to the Hip-O-Select (HOS) "Town Square". It's an especially appropriate time with the beginning of a new year, much more c/d product emerging and the forum increasingly popular over the past several months. Plus, we have so many new members and visitors from across the border. Oh Canadians -- and Mexicans -- not U! I mean, of course, from the Motown Bulletin Board, which is currently under re-something.
Recently, during the holidays, without a GENERAL DISCUSSION FORUM members at the HOS "Town Square" could not even post "Merry Christmas", "Happy Chanukah" or "New Year" greetings! Many of us HOS-ers who enjoy each other's 411 and comments at the "Town Square" had to do it independently, inconveniently and privately outside this Board via e-mail. Another example is that, today, member Carlo Visentin is seeing (related-to-the-Board) Supreme MARY WILSON in concert in Canada. Post it where? Likewise, with the recent Diva ROSS concert tour. In fact, just last night, DIANA performed as the finale highlight on the very relevant, star-studded, two-hour, multi-channel, televised special "Tsunami Aid Concert". By the way, she looked h-o-t! Only one other Motown artist was on the roster. Post all that where? Their music is for sale here!
Hip-O-Select (HOS): Please add a GENERAL DISCUSSION FORUM -- I've never seen an internet board without one! In fact, I said to myself: "Where the hell am I even gonna post this suggestion?"

Thanx for the compliment, Nevermore. Such are considered rarities around here. The Motown artist was STEVIE WONDER! In fact, SMW at the piano performed one of his beautiful, self-penned songs and had a female singer with him. The song, to me, sounded similiar to "As" -- though I know that it was not that! Probably it is something off his overdue, forthcoming c/d. BRUCE WILLIS -- and his 3 daughters -- were one of the many intermitent 411 announcers about why the Souheast Asian Tsunami Relief aid is greatly needed.

Stevie Wonder performed with India.Arie, a current Motown artist, the then unreleased title track of his upcoming album, "A Time 2 Love".
This is not "As", just the BRAND NEW STEVIE WONDER !!!

I didn't want to "eat out of the pot" (like Mama in DRS' "Shame") so while STEVIE W. was on, I was mainly in the kitchen stirrin' 'n' servin' it up to bring the dinner into the living room, since no one else would -- before the Motown Queen arv'd on the screen! I do remember hearing the phrase repeated "a time to love", now that U mentioned it, JBP. It's a beautiful song and was perfectly fitting regarding the Tsunami survivors. Oh, STEVIE also played the piano while performing it. At HOS "T/S", having a GENERAL DISCUSSION FORUM is obviously helpful to announce and exchange 411.

Well...here it is everybody! My extensive review of Mary's show on Sunday night at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada...and my meeting with her afterwards! A truly "Supreme" lady and experience!
"The evening of January 16th will always go down in my memory. Just being in the casino entrance was overwhelming. The show began at 8:30. I had front row seats, to the right of the stage. The place was pretty packed. The announcer announced, "Please welcome The Supremes! Featuring original Supreme Mary Wilson!!!" The crowd went wild! The curtain opened and Mary and her Supremes came onto the stage, I was so excited and nervous at the same time! She opened with "I Hear A Symphony", which she sang beautifully! Then she went onto "Love Child", and while she was singing, she looked around into the audience and waved at me! I waved back! The rest of the evening I felt more calm. She covered most of the Supremes hits, and she did great! Her voice sounded great too! In the middle of the show, she talked and she mentioned how cold it is in Canada. She also said, "You're all probably wondering how old I am" (as many people were wondering how old she was, I could over hear a few conversations between people). She said, "Well, Flo, Diana and I sold our first million selling record 40 years ago, so I must be 40 years old!" She told the audience that she was 60, and everyone was so amazed, and they applauded. She looked great! Even my mom commented on how young she looks, and how she is in such great shape! Mary put on a fabulous show! She really has a unique talent and charisma, truly Supreme! She also sang "You're So Beautiful", and then went and made a costume change. She came back and sang more Supremes hits. Near the end of the show, she sang "Walk the Line". She said "After 40 years of performing and recording, I've had many hits, but of course, I mostly sang the oohs and ahhs. I finally have one song that's mine, and I am going to sing it for you." The audience went wild again, and she came back for an encore and sang "Last Dance" by Donna Summers, which was great! When she was finished the song, she announced the Spinners. She and the Supremes left the stage and the curtain closed. There was a 15 minute break and then the Spinners came on. They were also really good! I never knew they had so many hits! They were all songs I had heard before, but I didn't know they sang them! After the Spinners were finished, I quickly left the concert hall, and went outside.
Outside of the hall was a table, where Mary's CD "I Am Changing" and book "Dreamgirls" was being sold. I bought her great CD, which I am listening to right now! I pulled out my "Mary Wilson '79" LP and my CD that I purchased, and I waited with my mom for Mary, with many other fans. While I was waiting, I talked with a few fans. One of them was a lady and two sisters, who came all the way from Manhatten, NY to see her! Her one sister was looking at my album, and she commented that Mary looks younger in the picture on the CD then on the cover of the album from 1979. Another man also noticed my album, and he was amazed! He asked me, "WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT?! I had the red one when it first came out!" He and his wife were very surprised, and I told him that I had bought it off of the internet. A few people were commenting on how they were amazed that I was a fan at my age. Then the lady from Manhatten was started to get tired of waiting, so she sat in Mary's chair, and started pretending to be Mary! She said, "Here I'll sign that for you! We have a book!" Afterwards, she said, "I'm going to leave a note for Mary". I am guessing she had a plane to catch or something else to do. She wrote her phone number and a message and told the man from the casino, selling the CD's to give it to her. Five minutes later she returned and said that her other sister wasn't feeling good, but told her and her other sister to stay and wait for Mary. The lady's sister made a comment about how it was unfortunate that the original Supremes could not reunite for the RTL and I told her that I had seen that show in Toronto. She asked me if I was a fan of the Supremes, and I said I was a big fan! She said she used to pretend to be the Supremes when she was younger with her sisters. Then some stranger came up to my mother and asked about the crowd of people. My mom told her she was signing autographs and taking pictures, and the lady said "For free?" I couldn't help laughing! The lady said "I bet there's a $5 charge, stars usually do that." Then the lady from NY mentioned that she had seen Diana Ross by herself in Central Park in New York a long time ago. I asked her, "Was it in 1983 that you saw her?" She looked at me, with her eyes as wide as they could go. She was so surprised, she said, "Wow!!! How do you know that!!!" And I said that I am a big fan. She said "How old were you in 1983?" And I said "I wasn't even born yet!" She was so amazed. I couldn't stop laughing! She started to get impatient waiting for Mary, and sent out her sister into the VIP room twice, to try to get her to come out, as she was greeting VIP people first. The lady from NY was humourously complaining, and she said "We came all the way from New York to meet Mary! Look at the poor boy here!" And then my mom said, "It's a school night!" We were having a great time laughing and everything, while waiting for Mary. The lady was starting to get mad, wondering what was taking so long for her sister to come back. So she went into the room herself, and Mary came out, escorted by the lady and her sister, and some other fans. I was so nervous!
She started signing autographs and talking with everyone. I was next in line! I greeted her, I was so speechless! I said "Hi Mary! Do you remember me?!" My mom said I forgot to say my name, so she said "This is Carlo, you're 'youngest fan'!" I said, "I'm the one that's been sending you the e-mails" (as I had previously been in communication with her through e-mail). She was so surprised! She said "Wow! I'm so happy to finally meet you!" She signed my CD and LP and we talked for about 5 minutes. I got more talking time than anyone else! She was commenting on how much I've grown, as I had previously sent her a picture of myself. She said that she remembers at the beginnig that she didn't believe I was my age, as she said I was so intelligent! She said after I sent her the picture, she finally believed me! My mom said that she remembered me telling her about that. Then someone said, "He probably won't get any sleep tonight and he won't go to school tomorrow", and Mary said "You better go to school!" lol! We talked a bit longer. On my album she wrote "To Carlo. Touch. Mary Wilson" and on my CD she accidently wrote "To Carlos. Mary Wilson." After the whole autograph session, she started with pictures. The guy from the casino told us not to use a flash. Mary said that she has a problem with it, but we moved to an area with plenty of light. She said if we use a flash she'll get headaches at night, and then she'll have nightmares! lol! The first picture taken, some guy uses the flash! She was still very humourous and kind. When I was about to take my picture with her, I mentioned to her that "Delana and Gary and his mom from Salem say hi!" She was very surprised and said "You know them from the Board?!" After the picture, we talked a bit more and I said I would keep sending her e-mails, maybe one this week. She was very kind and polite! When I was about to leave, saying my goodbye, I said "it has always been my dream to meet you." She was very touched and she gave me a big hug! I said bye and she said "God Bless!" I will always remember that night! I still feel like I am in a dream! I can't believe it happened! A Supreme evening with Mary Wilson!"
And here everyone is a link to a group I made for my photos, which can be viewed at the following URL:
http://groups.msn.com/Carlo89photos/shoebox.msnw
There are two photos of me and her, and various photos of her during the meeting, and two autographs I got from her! I may be uploading a few more photos at the end of the week! ...

Wow, Carlo Vee, berry Supreme!
Glad to hear that MARY opened with "Symphony" as that's a song never opened with by DIANA or THE SUPREMES. In fact, it used to be "THE SUPREMES' Closing Theme" (whether the song was done or not). U perfectly described your Supreme experience in such delightful detail that one felt like they were there. For me, especially about the 3 gals from Manhattan (notice three "a"s). Ironically, DRS sang "Manhattan". The way U portrayed post-show MARY is exactly how she is: very accommodating. I assume MARY sang "Someday".
One of the HOS Administrators, who I was speaking with earlier about an old resolved problem (a-hem!), is from... oh, Canada! and he, too, is looking forward to reading your Supreme review of MARY WILSON in Canada and seeing the pix! I even let him know where he'd be able to find it -- right here at the temporary General Discussion Forum. Oh, the Subcomandante also knew about this pending suggestion for a "G.D.F." and likes the idea! After all, it would be another plus-feature to this entire HOS Board and benefit ALL!

I agree - as AAG was mentioning, as long as people conduct themselves like civil members, I would love to see a general discussion board. I was mostly PO'ed that recent posts that got deleted was slanderous personal attacks on a board where potential customers could be scared off. Nothing's wrong with a healthy disagreement, and free speech and all that stuff, but I don't think it's necessary for people to be accusing other members of having a life threatening disease. If you wanna attack people like that, make yourself a blog and b-i-t-c-h til the cows come home. That way you'll be easier to nab with a court summons LOL
The general discussion board is a good idea though, and I cast my vote for it as well - as long as it's maintained in case trouble happens.
PS: Carlo, thanks for the review. Glad you had a great time with Mary!

Very well said, ELLE. In fact, I heartily laughed out soooo loud when I read your phrase "... with a Court summons", that three people in other rooms ran in and asked, "What's soooo funny?" When they saw me on the computer, they knew: "Friends of Motown"! And, quiet as it's kept.... E.D., right U are! The b*tch U referred to will not be waking up to "Early Morning Love" and it will not be a delivery from SureSource. Like another classic Motown artist sang, "Here Comes The Judge"! And, the b*tch will be responding, "Yes, U honor!"

In NYC Concert: MARTHA REEVES & THE VANDELLAS
It's been re-confirmed that MARTHA REEVES & THE VANDELLAS will be re-appearing at B.B. King's Nightclub, located at 237 West 42 Street (just one exciting block from exciting Times Square) in Manhattan, New York, on Monday evening, March 7th, 2005 @ 8 p.m.
Confirmed M.R.V. songs to be performed include their following classic Motown hits: "Come And Get These Memories", "Heat Wave", "In My Lonely Room", "Dancing In The Street", "Nowhere To Run", "Love Makes Me Do Foolish Things", "My Baby Loves Me" (Martha's favourite), "I'm Ready For Love", "Jimmy Mack" and "Honey Chile" (my favorite). Of course, there will be other surprise M.R.V. songs. Plus, their famous "Copacabana Medley", including "Quiet Nights", "The Look Of Love" and "The Boy From Ipanema". No wonder Jimmy Mack is missing! And, Miss MARTHA will be singing three songs from her current solo "Home To You" compact disc including "God Bless The Child"!
"Let's Hear It For The Girls": MARTHA LOIS DELPHINE

We certainly do need a general discussion forum, so we can talk about topics that are not Motown or UMG related.
For example, Tina Turner has returned to American shores again with a new "Best of" album. She was on the Today show this morning, half-heartedly saying she just might do another tour, for her fans, but no more every nighters.
I guess she means maybe two or three dates a week in the same town. Tina is 65 or 66 years old and still looking remarkable, but she can't do it the way she used to .
I don't like everything she's done lately in terms of her music, or the way she conducts some aspects her personal life, but she's still here and still doing her thing after 40 years.

TINA TURNER was born on November 26, 1939 -- the year of "The Wizard of Oz" -- in Nutbush, Tennesse, USA. "T.T." (not U Thane Tierney) recently turned 65 (and you'd never know it). On the "Today Show", I heard -- and read -- that TINA was requested and she obliged in showing off her famous legs!

OMG and Lord & Taylor!!
Johnny Perrone... what a grrrrrrrrrrreat surpsise -- in fact, another swell surprise from U after announcing me, Ask Any Girl, on your terrific Motown radio show last night, which ironically featured BRENDA HOLLOWAY!
So now I not only get to hear BRENDA but actually see her performing "Just Look What You've Done"! Incredible! She looked so Supremely Motown. I asked three different people of varying ages: "Who is that?" Each of them separately said: DIANA ROSS! In fact, BRENDA looks like she will be the next lead singer of THE SUPREMES -- and she sure could have been! Another Motown personnel boo-boo was undertaken!
Thanx again, JP. Yes, everyone must see this classic t.v. performance clip of Miss HOLLOWAY. See the BH link above in the Perrone posting.

I KNOW! I think the choice of Jean was perfect, but I am really puzzled by Brenda not being chosen, or even asked to be the replacement for Diana. She not only had the looks...but I can imagine her singing those Frank Wilson tunes PERFECTLY!!!

John,
Brenda had already departed Motown by the time serious thought was given to finding a replacement for Diana. But , I wonder..... hmmh.....
In "Motown The Golden Years" Brenda states "Berry wanted me for Las Vegas, because I'm from L.A. And I wasn't interested in nothing but making some hits on the charts, Motown style. I don't want to wait for Vegas. I'm only 19, 20 years old. Vegas is for old people. Vegas is for dancers. What am I doing? So Berry and I would constantly bicker about what he was trying to save me for. You know, you're so impatient when you're 19, 20. You don't know what you're doing. All you want to do is just do everything fast, and just stumble and fall over yourself. But anyway, we would conflict.
For me to go to Motown and not get immediate attention that I really needed to do my craft and my artistry, it just really, really staggered me. And I was just very, very unhappy. Because I was getting lost in the shuffle too many times. So I expressed that to Berry. He was getting ready to do something, but I just got so frustrated. So frustrated until- so you know I was crazy- I was in the middle of a session with Smokey, and left. I snuck out of the studio, got in a cab, and came back to Los Angeles.
I was pulling a move that was not a stable one. I should have listened to the logic of Berry Gordy and just had patience and waited. Because every promise that he made me, he fulfilled it."

BRENDA HOLLOWAY not being at Motown at the time didn't matter. After all DIANA ROSS,
THE TEMPTATIONS, SMOKEY ROBINSON, THE FOUR TOPS, CINDY BIRDSONG, et al. have left Motown at various points -- and returned. Besides, JEAN TERRELL didn't come from the Motown stable. Neither did their first choice -- especially BERRY GORDY's -- to 'replace' DER (upon her solo career) as lead singer of THE SUPREMES: the perfect-for-the-position FREDA PAYNE. In a poll last year on the Motown Bulletin Board, the members actually chose TAMMI TERRELL as their first choice to have succeeded DIANA. As we all know, an extremely serious medical condition sadly prevented that for TT.
Anyway, JMCLSS, if Motown had chosen BRENDA, your name would be: BMCLSS!
