Smokey is well acknowledged as one of the great stars of Motown in the 60s, no debate. However, there are a handful of truly great LPs he made in the 70s which seem to stand up better today than ever. His 70s period of recording is the most overlooked of all the superstars of Motown. Even his masterpiece Quiet Storm has never had the royal re-issue treatment. It only came out on a badly mastered budget CD in the early 90s. Another great LP of his was called Pure Smokey from 1974. Then there is his debut solo LP - Smokey. I think that all of his solo LPs from "Smokey" to "Essar" should be given the re-master & re-issue treatment complete with any studio out-takes or bonus tracks. Let me hear ya say - yeah!
