I would really like to see Freda's two ABC/Dunhill Records albums from '74 & '75, Payne and Pleasure and Out of Payne Comes Love, show up on CD as a 2-fer.

They are arguably some of her best work that sadly maet with no commercial acceptance here in the US. Payne and Pleasure continued her association with Lamont Dozier and McKinley Jackson from her Invictus days while Out of Payne Comes Love paired her with producer, Bob Monaco.

If there are any unreleased tracks/outtakes from either album's sessions, they could also be included.

Any other Freda fans out there wanting to see this happen?

scorp,

Absolutely. I just adore the track "Didn't I Tell You" on "Payne & Pleasure". It's such a hypnoyic little ditty. Oh yes, doesn't Freda look so good on the cover of "Payne & Pleasure"?

Ivor,

And then some!

I remember just gazing at the cover art for long periods of time just absolutely transfixed by the woman's beauty.

Freda should have been huge as a recording artist - she had it on so many fronts except where it probably counted - her own Berry Gordy.

Anyway on Payne and Pleasure, my fav cuts are: "It's yours to have", "Shadow on the Wall", "The way we were", "A song for you" and "I get carried away". I enjoy the whole album but these cuts are the standouts!

Indeed, because it "Seems so long" since these albums have been out of print - 30 years and 29 years respectively!

Hey cjk,

You constantly amaze me with your breadth of musical knowledge that in most cases, is before your time!

Yes, from Out Of Payne Comes Love, "You", "You brought the woman out of me", "Look what I found", "I hear rumours" and "Seems so long" are the standouts, to say nothing of yet another standout in album photography!

I definitely would like to see the ABC tracks. I like those.

I LOVE her MGM LP. I would REALLY REALLY like to see that one.

She also did an LP on the Impule label, which I believe you also own.

It would be great to have lots of Freda to choose from.

My favorite FREDA PAYNE post-Invictus song (also released as a single) is the greatly-produced -- by the 1970s SUPREMES' Frank Wilson and other Motown alumni Tony Camillo -- disco-ish, captivating "Love Magnet". Besides a 7" single, "LM" was also out on 12" plus on Side One of the highly-acclaimed album "Stares & Whispers"! The entire album showed the great range, depth and power of Miss PAYNE. The post-Invictus/post-ABC/D Records album was released on Capitol in 1977. It was an outstanding disco song big in the dance clubs. Shoulda been a big soul/pop hit, too. At least let's get it on c/d!

Yeah...'Gimme a Million Dollar Horse...and let me ride away...'!!!

Y'gotta love 'Outta Payne Comes Love', with her remakes of the Non-LP Paul Williams single, 'Look What I Found', the smolderin' Evie Sands "debutante's ballad", 'You Brought The Woman Out In Me'!! and the David Batteau ballad, 'Lost In Love (We Came, We Saw, We Fell In Love)', with the sax solo by John Klemmer... SMOKIN'...!!!

And featuring Dennis Belfield on Bass, Ben Benay on Guitar, Ron Stockert on Keys, and lots o' strings, horns & moog synthesizers arranged by Jimmie Haskell!

...ridin' away on my 'Million Dollar Harley'... J.E.G.

EMI/Virgin would be your best bet for this album to be re-issued then. It's also one of my favorites, too but UMG can't do anything about it!

It just might, cjk.

EMI has quietly released Some Minnie Riperton albums on CD at budget prices (actually 2-fers) in the past year as well as Melba Moore's 1982, The Other Side Of The Rainbow, which just came out this past August.

My suggestion: keep checking your favorite UK webtailer for music very often!
