For starters, let me say that I absolutely love the "In Japan" CD. I am SO INCREDIBLY THANKFUL to Motown Select for issuing this and other rare items. This is a good time to be a Supremes' fan!

As for the "In Japan" release, I hear some people say they do not like the packaging. What do you guys think? I personally like it.

My only beef with the CD is that there are no modern liner notes. I wish that Motown had included an insert or something detailing when the LP was first issued, in which countries, its' chart success (if any), perhaps some comments from Mary, Lynda, and Jean regarding the project. I love liner notes that provide info about an album, and this one definitely deserved something like that.
For example, the notes could have addressed the incorrect spelling of the girls' names in the Japanese insert, the issue of "MacAuthor Park" not being included, yada yada yada...

I think Motown Select has done a wonderful thing by issuing this project on CD, yet I also feel they missed a golden opportunity by omitting liner notes.

Any thoughts on that, gang?

And Motown Select - - - how about correcting this error with future releases???

Ron -

At least you received your copy of the Supremes in Japan. I haven't gotten mine yet though I mailed SureSource a money order nearly 2 weeks ago. Ugh.

But yeah, I have heard all around that the issues with the in Japan releases have been the mis-namings of the various group members. I think for nostalgia's sake they might have left the notes as is, but I agree, maybe a corrected notes and maybe an interview with one of the group members would be nice.

Regarding the "cardboarding" of the c/d and the omission of liner notes (as long as they are not by Bryan Chin) on "THE SUPREMES 'Live' In Japan", I agrree w/ U fully, RockRon.

"Corrected" liner notes would be an abomination! The Japanglish liner notes are hysterical, and changing Jean Terrell's name to Tina Duress is only part of it! The lyrics translations are the best part of the entire CD release!

The part in TCB where they translated it as "TCB means make it your own business, make it your own business, make it your own business" is priceless! And the line about the "little red tea nuts"? Too funny!

One of my favorite lyric translations in the liner notes is "Throw your booze away" from Cabaret!

The Japanese have a wicked sense of humor, and no ear for english song lyrics! No, not at all!

We don't need "corrected" liner notes. That would be just too unnecessarily... well, needlessly redundant. Bad idea. Totally!

Wait until you get your copy before you decide that the liner notes should have been "corrected". Trust me, you'll love the liner notes just as they are, faithfully reproduced from the original release!

Why do you call it an "error"? There was no "error" made! They released the original album in a smaller size, which is exactly what their goal was! No "error" at all!

I think they did the right thing by providing the original liner notes, faithfully reproduced form the original release. The original liner notes are hysterical, and historical!

Someone can always write an essay about the release of the original album, but to tamper with these priceless original liner notes would have been a VERY BAD IDEA!

An essay about the release of the original album can be written later. The idea was to faithfully produce a re-release of this album just as it originally appeared, and that's just what they did.

BRAVO! More of the same, please!

The error I was referring to was not in regard to correcting or replacing the original liner notes. I am happy that the album is released as it was originally.

The error I refer to ... if there is indeed an error...is the omission of a fact sheet or new liner notes accompanying this release. I simply stated that I think new liner notes would have added to the release, and I still feel that way.

I'm sorry, I thought you were saying that someone made an error in releasing this album as it was originally released. My bad!

Well, like I said, anyone can write an essay about the original release and publish the story. I'm a writer, and I'm currently working on lining up some Supremes interviews. I'll be sure to ask questions about this album in particular and I'll also be sure to include this information in my article. I'll post news here about when and where the article is published. Should be sometime early next year.

Cheers!
