Subject: Spotlight on Uni records

Posted by top40fan on 14-Sep-2004 3:08:34 PM
How disappointed I always am when I visit my local record store, and am able to find a "spotlight on" every obscure doo-wop label from the 1950's, and note how shabbily archived is the music from sucessive decades, particularly the late 60's/early 70's -the last great Top 40 period. As Hip-O has access to the Uni label archives (and American Decca and MCA labels), how about a compilation disc featuring songs like "Good Morning Freedom" by Daybreak; "River Road" by Uncle Dog; "Back to Dreamin Again" by Pat Shannon; "Wild About My Lovin" by Adrian Smith and "No" by Bulldog? None of these to my knowledge has ever been released on CD. Just a thought.

One Uni track I'm partial to is "Any Road" by Boondoggle and Balderdash, which was an early Alan O'Day composition.

Great idea... although it would be nice to see the reissue of some of these original albums. The self-titled debut record from Bulldog, for example, seems like it would be a great candidate for Select Direct.
