Since his four-CD box set To Be Continued... was first issued in 1990, Elton John has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, won an Oscar for The Lion King and recorded a tribute to Princess Diana that became the biggest-selling single of all time.  With John officially the second biggest-selling solo artist in recording history (behind only Garth Brooks), the title of the gold-certified To Be Continued... was not merely hopeful, it was prophetic.  As the album is now reissued, it still is.

To Be Continued... is more than a greatest hits collection--though it contains nearly all of Elton's biggest hits (19 Top 10s including five #1s, five songs which went platinum and nine others which went gold).  From hits to rarities to B-sides to several selections previously unavailable on an album, To Be Continued... is the musical history of Elton John from 1965 to 1990, complete with a expansive booklet with contributions from Elton and his lyricist Bernie Taupin.

The rarities among the 68 selections on To Be Continued... include the 1965 single "Come Back Baby" by Bluesology (Elton's first group) and the demo of "Your Song," as well as two of three collaborations with John Lennon ("One Day At A Time" and the live "I Saw Her Standing There," which tragically was Lennon's last appearance on any stage).  Their other recording together was the #1 gold "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds."

Of the other hits, To Be Continued... features the platinum #1s "Crocodile Rock," "Bennie And The Jets," "Philadelphia Freedom" and "Island Girl;" gold #1 "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" (with Kiki Dee); platinum Top 10 "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and other gold Top 10s "Daniel," "The Bitch Is Back," "Someone Saved My Life Tonight," "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word," the live "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me," "Little Jeannie" and "Mama Can't Buy You Love."  Still other classics include "Your Song," "Rocket Man," "Pinball Wizard" (from Tommy), "Tiny Dancer," "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues," "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting," "I'm Still Standing," "Sad Songs (Say So Much)," "I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That" (the 12" dance mix), "Nikita" and, of course, the live "Candle In The Wind" (the original version of the Princess Diana tribute).

Three then-new recordings debuted on To Be Continued...: "Made For Me," "I Swear I Heard The Night Talkin'" and "Easier To Walk Away."  All were recorded during the same 1990 sessions as "You Gotta Love Someone" (from the Days Of Thunder soundtrack).

The biggest pop superstar of the '70s and a social Rorschach test in the '80s, Elton was renewed and revitalized in the '90s. To Be Continued..., the definitive compilation of his best to the date of its first release, is a look back at some of the greatest pop music ever recorded.
