Released in 1963, this is the CD debut of The King Of The Blues’ first album for ABC Records. Produced by Sid Feller and the legendary Clyde Otis, Mr. Blues features ‘B’ with both full-blown orchestras (strings et al) and hot small and big horn-led bands, led by, among others, Maxwell Davis and Belford Hendricks. The material ranges from then-newish B.B. co-composed tracks like the hoppin’ “I’m Gonna Sit In Til’ You Give In” to deep blues numbers like “Sneakin’ Around” and the Joe Turner hit “Chains Of Love.” B.B. also delightfully remakes pop/R&B numbers like his own 1956 #3 hit “On My Word Of Honor,” Lonnie Johnson’s hit “Tomorrow Night,” and Jesse Belvin’s “Guess Who.” Many of these tracks are making their CD debut, and it’s about time.
