Just saw Ms Cissy Houston at the Apollo in Harlem last week along with Darlene Love , Ben E King , Edna Wright (the Honeycone)Ula Hedwig (the Harlettes)Lil Steven(springsteen/sopranos)and a bevy of other divas..Cissy got a standing ovation for her version of Oh Holy Night...Cissy seemed a bit frail. Is it any wonder? oy....
Her legendary Sweet Inspiration album originally issued on Atlantic has never seen the light of day on CD format. This is long overdue. Estelle,Myrna, Sylvia and Emily are the true embodiment of SOUL at its very absolute finest. Speaking of DARLENE.......... Remember.......... DARLENE LOVE singing the rock 'n' soul version of "Chistmas, Baby Puh-leaze Come Home", "Winter Wonderland" and/or "White Christmas" on "The Late Show starring David Letterman" on Thursday evening, December 22 @ 11:30 p.m. (EST) on CBS-TV. Not to be missed! It is always a grrrrreat production number by Miss LOVE (with the white snow falling down)! Look for sister EDNA, too and another fab female singer on loan as back-up just for this eve!
